DRAWING AND PAINTING
WATERCOLOR CANVAS BAInstructor: Peggy Furlin Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. You’ve seen it in the art supply stores and maybe you’ve been reluctant to give it a try. Well, don’t be afraid anymore. Imagine hanging your finished watercolor paintings without a mat, without glass, even without a frame! The Figure Network presents: UNIVERSAL ANATOMY FOR THE ARTIST (All levels welcome) June, Friday 20 - Saturday 21, 2008 Time: Both days 11:00am to 8:00pm The Figure Network workshops is committed to conquer drawing the human figure. The network believes in drawing the human figure revising classical and traditional observation methods from the great masters of the renaissance and other periods in art history to more contemporary. I will be presenting high skills anatomical points of view to the student with the purpose of transmitting fundamental and advance knowledge when drawing the human figure. The figure will be drawn from pure observation. A life model with short and long poses will be provided.
The workshop is an educational human figure art program open for all the artists interested in the figure such as fine artists, illustrators, computer animators and designers. The program is also an ideal helpful tool for students going for a visual arts degree.
The workshop is committed to present complete visual and textual anatomical reference as well as illustrations of the figure in any given situation. All anatomical reference is based on valuable research and revision from a variety of resources which becomes accessible and straightforward for the practical everyday active figure artist. The cost will be determined by the number of students attending. WATERSCAPES BIInstructor: Linda Lucas Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Beautiful wet on wet washes create luminous water scenes. Complete an exciting transparent watercolor painting in this one day workshop. FAST AND LOOSE WATERCOLORS BIInstructor: Carolyn Merenda Saturday, June 7, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. This workshop is about spontaneity and gesture. POUR, SPLATTER, SPLASH: BIWATERCOLOR ABSTRACTS Instructor: Linda Lucas Saturday, August 2, 10 a.m. - 3 pm. SPECIAL INTEREST “ALTERED” ALBUM IN A BOX B Instructor: Marsha Bard Saturday, May 10 & 17, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Create your own papercraft box to display photos, or go the extra mile and alter the box to a "theme" for a gift box, or just a birthday or holiday card that is
totally different. This is a two day workshop where you will create the box in the first session and talk about possible 'themes'. You'll have a week to collect
objects, images and embellishments to use in the
second session where we'll bring your box to the

THEY ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT BA A Photographic Field TripInstructor: John Hynal Wednesdays, July 2, 9, 16 2 Studio meetings 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 pm 1 Field trip on the 23rd: Sunset + 2 1/2 hours SLR (cameras w/interchangeable lenses) photographers will experience the fine tuned craft of making artistic and surreal images using timed exposures in a downtown street scene in the dark of night. Extended exposures will allow us to direct our model to create unique effects like “ghosting” which renders a transparent subject and “tracing” which creates a fine line of light around our model. Additional mood altering effects using off camera flash, colored filters and Q-beam spotlights will add to the experience of painting with light! A portion of the field trip will address capturing fireworks and lightning. A modeling fee will be assessed depending on the number of participants. $115 ACM members, $125 non-members FIBER ARTS SILK PAINTING BI Instructor: Linda LucasSaturday, May 3, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. This workshop will teach you how to make exciting gifts or create something that will put the WOW! factor into your wardrobe. BODACIOUS BEADS: A FIBER ARTIST'S MUSE BInstructor: Robin Bowman Saturday, May 17, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. In this four hour workshop, students will explore the use of handcrafted fiber beads as an embellishment tool for numerous art and craft projects; including home decor, fabric collage and even jewelry! Although various fiber beads will be discussed, students will create beads from new and recycled fabrics and fibers. No prior experience is necessary, and no sewing skills are required. All materials will be provided. Feel free to bring small pieces of fabric from YOUR stach if desired. WARNING: Making these beads is very habit forming! $50 ACM members, $70 non- members JEWELRY WORKSHOPS FOUND OBJECTS AND JEWELRY IAInstructor: Wendy Thurlow Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. In this exciting two day workshop we will combine photos, glass, stone and anything your imagination can bring to class, with metals. Rivets, end caps for settings and new techniques with the flexhaft will be introduced. Focus will be on completing pendants, chars and earrings. Come prepared with your found objects! $135 ACM members, $155 non-members Supplies will be sold in class. CUTTLEFISH CASTING IAInstructor: Wendy Thurlow Saturday and Sunday, May 3 & 4, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Come play with molten metals! Cuttlefish bone has a soft structure and wood grain texture into which designs can be carved. The results are unique finished castings. Silver and bronze will be cast in this workshop to make rings, pendants and earrings with a unique texture. $135 ACM members, $155 non-members Supplies will be sold in class. HOLLOW FORM RINGS IA Instructor: Lorrie MasonSaturday, June 7, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. In this workshop we’ll create q contemporary looking rings in sterling. One using hollow form box construction, and the second using a dapping block. Ring design, layout and use of textures will be covered to create these modern styles. Supplies: 8x1 inch piece of sterling 24 gauge sheet may be purchased at the workshop or brought in by the student Estimated cost of supplies: $35 $85 ACM members, $105 non-members BALL AND CHAINS B Instructor: Lorrie Mason Saturday, August 2, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.Explore what vast possibilities lie ahead using the technique of drawing a bead on the end of wire to create links. Chain connections will be demonstrated and taught. Students will make 2 different chain patterns and toggle clasps for each. Supplies: 10 ft of 16 ga sterling round wire can be purchased at the time of workshop or brought in by student. CUSTOM PRONG SETTING IAInstructor: Steve Pawloski Saturday & Sunday, June 28 & 29, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. In this workshop we will explore the fundamental techniques of prong setting. Students will create a custom 4 prong ring with a round faceted stone. This class is a must for those interested in prong setting with commercially available settings or custom fabricated settings. CLOISONNÉ BAInstructor: Felicia Liban Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Learn the ancient art of cloisonné enamel demonstration and instruction of how to make a design, and fuse the glass to metal. Create a pin or pendant in this two day workshop. $135 ACM members, $155 non-members TUBE SET AND FLUSH SET STONES IAInstructor: Steve Pawloski Saturday and Sunday, July 12 & 13, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Back by popular demand!! In this two day workshop we will focus on tube set and flush set faceted stones. You will walk away with two finished pieces of jewelry. BEZEL SETTING ODD SHAPED STONES IAInstructor: Steve Pawloski Saturday & Sunday. June 14 & 15, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. There are a number of tricks to simplifying complex shaped bezels. In this two day workshop we will create a number of bezels with the aim of a finished piece integrating multiple elements. PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS MASTERING THE MASTERS OF LIGHT BAInstructor: John Hynal Saturday, June 28, 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m. This visually exciting workshop explores the relationship of light and shadow as it applies to portraiture in photography and all artistic media! We begin with latter day masters of portraiture (Rembrandt) and systematically progress through lighting patterns & designs used in Hollywood (circa 1920,) including butterfly, rake, rim, spot and split lighting that is commonly used in today’s tech oriented theatrical and print media. Learn how reflectors and gobos are used to enhance distinct patterns that are sure to evoke viewer response & emotion. The workshop demonstrations are accomplished with everyday household lights showing you how to assemble your own “home studio” for under $75… Posing tips and techniques will be demonstrated using a live model and handouts are distributed. POINT & SHOOT LIKE A PRO BAInstructor: John Hynal Saturday May 17th, 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m. Digital meltdown over too many options? Bring your photographic experience into sharper focus in this one day workshop! We’ll begin with the fun of photography as it applies to composition, lighting and subject choice. We’ll explore tested methods that will improve your travel, portrait and family pictures using your zoom lens and available camera adjustments. Megapixel and J-Peg quality choices are decided by the type of photography you do. Brief lecture and discussion is supported by slide presentations and then you’ll be shown which buttons and menu options to choose. This comprehensive class will help you take control of your digital camera! $60 ACM members, $70 non-members |
