Beginning Watercolor - Supply List

If you are interested in getting started in watercolor, this course has your name on it! (That includes artists who are already proficient in other media.) You will learn basic watercolor techniques and principles of color theory by completing several fun and informative projects in the classroom. The class can be repeated, as this long-time artist/teacher will work with students as they achieve proficiency.

Intermediate Watercolor - Supply List

Taught in a seminar format, this class encourages students to develop their own distinctive style to produce original show-quality paintings. Ideas and inspirational assignments are given followed by individual help and critiques. Color theories and techniques taught in Simmons’ introductory class will continue.

So you know how to use watercolors and many of its techniques. But you want to know how to design and develop your watercolor style. Then these classes are for you. You will learn how to develop a better understanding of the design elements that make your painting sing! Bring your photos to paint from for the subject of that session.

Learn the techniques that will allow you to overcome your fear of watercolor. Practice flat washes, graded washes, and brush handling. You will find that you have much more control over this medium than you would have guessed. And you’ll have fun! We will work primarily with still life, plants, and some photos. Instructor will conduct weekly demos and provide enthusiastic support.

This class is for the experienced artist that likes to create expressionistic and abstract art. We will use various water media and papers (yupo & masa) to learn unusual effects. Your own personal ideas are then used to form finished paintings. $5 fee paid to teacher.

Fun With Yupo - Supply List
Instructor: Barbara Simmons
Thursdays, 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Session 1: Nov. 10, 17, (No Nov. 24), Dec. 1, 8, 15
YUPO is a plastic paper that can give very
interesting effects. In this class of beginners,
we will do a series of fun projects using liquid acrylics and watercolors
on YUPO paper. Each project will teach a different technique essential
to creating finished paintings. This class will only be offered once a year.
This class is a good prerequisite for the Experimental Water Media class
offered in January. A $5.00 material fee will be collected by the instructor
at the first class.
