Digital Photography, Pure and Simple
Instructor: John Hynal
Wednesdays, 1:00 – 3:30 OR
Wednesdays, 6:30 – 9:00
Session 1: Jan. 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8
Take control of your digital camera! You’ll learn basic digital capture concepts
and then we’ll teach you how to navigate the myriad of buttons & wheels to
create an image as opposed to taking a snapshot! Learn how to control
the camera’s shutter speed for high speed sports shots, how to utilize slow
speeds to blur the water of a mountain stream or create the illusion of speed
using panning techniques! Capture lightning & fireworks like a pro. Discover
how to use f-stops for clear sharp backgrounds or create a mood with
diffused backgrounds. We’ll discuss lenses, flash, reflectors and more in this
comprehensive 5 week series. This class has been the starting point for many
of this area’s finest photographers. SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses
and point & shoot cameras w/ multi mode options are recommended for this
course. Contact the instructor if you’re not sure.

Thursdays, 6:30 – 9:00
Session 1: Feb. 9, 11 (Saturday Field Trip),
16, 23, Mar. 1
Further exploration of the techniques learned in Digital Photo, Pure & Simple
and includes two field trips! Learn how to “fine tune” your images with
exposure compensations and an introduction to High Dynamic Range. Our
first field trip (daytime) will take us to a local area to capture still life and lifestyle
images with an emphasis on composition, lighting and exposure techniques.
Our second field trip takes us “out at night,” in downtown Bradenton where
we’ll expose for low light shots of city streets and local architecture. A model
will pose as we experiment with ghosting and tracing techniques and painting
with light. The evening ends with a dazzling display of fireworks (a sparkler?!)
and a discussion on how to shoot lightning. Participants must have a tripod
and a clear understanding of shutter speed & f-stops.
